Trade Plate Applications

What is a Motor Trade Number?

A Motor Trade Number is a permit that authorizes certain businesses and institutions to drive unregistered and unlicensed vehicles on public roads, in accordance with legal regulations.

Businesses that are authorized to operate unregistered or unlicensed vehicles on public roads do so as part of their regular activities, which may include:

  1. Selling vehicles
  2. Exchanging vehicles
  3. Repairing vehicles
  4. Delivering vehicles to clients

These businesses can apply for a Motor Trade Number to obtain trade plates that allow this.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

  1. Motor transport contractors who deliver vehicles
  2. Motor dealers who sell, exchange, deliver, or repair vehicles
  3. Manufacturers or builders who deliver or test vehicles
  4. Importers who deliver vehicles
  • Applicants must first apply for a Motor Trade Number and then license it. For instance, if you sell vehicles, having a motor trade number and trade plates allows customers to test drive vehicles legally on public roads.
