De-Registrations | Scrapping

For Almost All De-registration Reasons:

  1. Police affidavit explaining the reason for deregistering or scrapping the vehicle.
  2. The affidavit must include the vehicle’s registration number, license number, and chassis number.
  3. Original vehicle Natis (RC1) or vehicle registration document.
  4. Copy of the owner’s identity document.
  5. Photographs of the scrapped vehicle.
  6. Proof of address (utility bill or the first page of a bank statement).
  • If the utility bill is not in your name, the bill owner must provide an affidavit confirming your residence at the address, with the utility bill attached.
  • If you live in an informal settlement, you must provide a letter from the ward councilor with an official date stamp confirming your address.
  1. Completed ADV form (Application for Vehicle Deregistration).
  2. Signed affidavit.

For Almost All De-registration Reasons

A vehicle cannot be deregistered or scrapped if the new owner has not completed the change of ownership. If the new owner has failed to do so and cannot be located or traced, an "export buyer unknown" process must be initiated. To proceed, please provide the following:

  1. Police affidavit stating that the vehicle has been sold, including the sale date and amount. The affidavit should explain why the "export buyer unknown" process is necessary—specifically, that the new owner is missing or cannot be found to complete the ownership transfer. The affidavit must include the vehicle’s registration number, license number, and chassis number.
  2. Completed NCO (Notification of Change of Ownership) form.
  3. Original vehicle Natis (RC1).
  4. Copy of the identity document of the current owner (the person who sold the vehicle).
  5. Completed NCO form to be brought along.

When should I de-register or scrap my vehicle?

You may de-register or scrap your vehicle if you fall under any of the following circumstances. Only the registered titleholder of the vehicle is authorized to carry out the de-registration or scrapping process:

  1. The vehicle has been stolen.
  2. The vehicle is no longer operational (due to road accidents, being vintage, permanently demolished, etc.).
  3. The vehicle’s repairs are beyond feasible (officially declared permanently unfit).
  4. The vehicle is exempt from registration.
  5. While there may be other reasons for de-registering a vehicle, these are the most common situations where de-registration or scrapping is applicable.
