  2. Proof of the company’s address (utility bill or first page of a bank statement), not older than 3 months.

  • If the business operates from a residential property, a letter on the company letterhead must state the property owner’s name. This must be accompanied by a copy of the property owner’s ID and proof of their address.

  2. SARS document confirming the company’s VAT number.
  3. A company letterhead declaring the intention to apply for a BRNC.

When Do I Need to Apply for a BRNC?

  1. You only need to apply for a Business Register Number Certificate (BRNC) when you are registering a vehicle in your business name for the first time.
  2. Without a BRNC, your vehicle cannot be registered under your business. This certificate applies exclusively to businesses with CK1 or CK2 CIPRO documents:
  • CK1 refers to businesses with “Pty (Ltd)” in their name.
  • CK2 refers to businesses with “CC” in their name.
  1. If your business falls into any of the following categories, you do not require a BRNC. Instead, you must obtain a Traffic Register Number (TRN), which is explained elsewhere on this page:
  • Foreign nationals
  • Businesses operating as non-legal entities
  • Partnerships
  • Sole proprietorships
  • Municipal, provincial, or government authorities
  • Churches, congregations, or welfare organizations
  • Recreational organizations
  • Educational institutions
  • Trusts or statutory bodies
